Pre-course material
- Required reading about investigation plans, risk assessment, data sources, evidence and the intelligence cycle
- A series of structured learning tasks where delegates use real life investigations to relate their understanding of the pre-course work
- Delegates are required to identify a range of investigation examples to support the classroom learning

- Introduction to case studies – these are developed in conjunction with the customer before the programme
- The investigation plan and setting objectives
- The intelligence cycle and the National Intelligence Model
- Reviewing the available information
- Evidence sources and intelligence acquisition
- Introduction to intelligence analysis
- Issues around personal assumptions – linked to diversity
- Human Rights, Data Protection, Freedom of Information Act and confidentiality
- Sensitive areas for investigation
- Impact of RIPA on investigations – link to surveillance
- Organisation specific procedures and guidance
- Risk assessment.
Assessment
- Two multiple choice objective choice tests
- Assessed post course assignment related to real life investigations.
